1:30pm Walk Beenham 4.5 Miles
Route is mostly woodland footpath or bridleway, across a couple of open fields, and along some short sections of joining up quiet roads. For cultural interest we pass a couple of churches, ditto schools, playing fields and historic - just over 100 years - Douai Abbey.
I luckily have space for a dozen cars on my drive (Crestbourne, Bourne Lane Beenham, Berkshire, RG7 5NY).
I am happy to provide tea and cakes after the walk, but only if you can get me some volunteers to help brew and serve. I will supply the tea and cakes free for IVC.
Helpfully the Six Bells pub, which is ‘six doors’ away, have paid for ‘Brown Signs’ to be at the nearest junction of all the adjacent major roads, importantly on the A4 between Reading and Thatcham. Approximately half way between Theale and Woolhampton, at a short section of dual carriageway, a right turn if you are coming from Reading. Follow these signs to the Pub - but after passing the front entrance on your right, drive a further 30 metres down the short narrow road section and turn
right immediately into a gravel drive. Crestbourne is the last house down
this drive and someone will meet you to advise on parking.
Alternatively those entrusting navigation to SatNav or map reading may
find themselves on the (un-numbered) road between Englefield and Upper
Bucklebury, off which the Pub and Beenham are signposted near Chapel Row. If arriving from this direction the gravel drive (on your left) is the very
first thing you come to at the beginning of the village, just before the
road sign giving priority in the narrow section.
